EM Inflation sigh of relief

Apr 8, 2026

EM nations & assets breathe a huge sigh of relief on news of the hopefully-to-hold Hormuz Strait opening & 2-week ceasefire.

Of course, it will take way more than two weeks to deal with the backlog of fuel, fertiliser & and other supplies, with food price pressure still to be felt. Africa stands out here, given the heavy weight of food in its consumer/inflation baskets. The continent should thus be a major focal point of G20 deliberations at the upcoming IMF & World Bank meetings in D.C.
